Tottenham and Gladbach in advanced talks over Marcus Thuram

Thuram has enjoyed a stellar season at Borussia-Park, clocking up 11 goals and 12 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions in 2020/21.

His impressive displays in the Bundesliga and the Champions League have not gone unnoticed, with several of Europe’s top clubs registering interest in his services.

However, Tottenham could be on the verge of beating the competition to the 23-year-old’s signature as they’ve already opened talks with Monchengladbach.

As reported by reputed journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, the son of the legendary French defender is a top transfer priority for the Spurs and is likely to leave Germany this summer.

Thuram’s deal at Monchengladbach is due to expire in the summer of 2023, which puts Die Fohlen in a strong bargaining position heading into the summer transfer window.

The forward’s blistering showings in the Bundesliga have earned him a place in France’s Euro 2020 squad as Didier Deschamps’ team look to improve on their runners-up finish from 2016.

With the uncertainty surrounding the future of their talisman Harry Kane, Tottenham are in the market for several attacking profiles.

Steven Bergwijn, who arrived from PSV in January 2020, has so far failed to live up to expectations, while Lucas Moura and Eric Lamela both performed in patches in 2020/21.

Gareth Bale is set to return to Real Madrid after his loan in London expires this summer, which will leave a sizeable void in the front third.

Thuram ticks all the boxes for the type of player Daniel Levy has been recruiting over the past few years. And there’s a genuine feeling that the deal could go through by the time the Euros come around.
