France central defender Dayot Upamecano, speaking on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final match against England, said that “the team that makes the fewest mistakes will win this match.”
He described England as a team of world class players who had demonstrated how good they were in the last European Championships when they reached the final where they lost to Italy on penalties.
For their part, France are the first defending World Cup holders to reach the last eight since the 2002 champions, Brazil, did so in 2006.
